Baseball team attributes doubleheader victory against Sacramento Lutheran to pitching

Senior Zane Jakobs pitched his first no-hitter against Sac Lutheran.

“Any time you throw a no-hitter, your team is probably going to win.

“Any time your offense puts up 16 runs, you’re probably going to win.

“But put both of those together, and that’s a W every time,” senior Zane Jakobs said.

The baseball team played a doubleheader against Sacramento Lutheran High School, beating them 16-0, 17-4. Both games were on April 13 at the Mather Sports Center.

Sophomore Jack Christian said the two games were the team’s best.

“Our pitching was on point, and our defense worked well together,” Christian said. “I had a couple singles, a double and a triple, which (is) the best I’ve ever hit.”

Sophomore Nate Jakobs attributed the wins to pitching; Christian pitched solidly, and Zane threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

It was Zane’s first no-hitter.

“It felt great to finally get a no-hitter and help the team win,” Zane said. “Honestly, it was a great game for the team.”

Every player was able to bat, which helped the team score more runs, Christian said.

Additionally, the opposing team wasn’t as experienced as the Cavs, so the game wasn’t as competitive, senior Adam Dean said.

“(When they first got an out on us) in the game, they were all cheering and laughing because they didn’t think they were going to catch the ball at all,” Dean said.

The next game is a doubleheader against the Western Sierra Collegiate Academy on Tuesday, April 18, at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Mather Sport Center.
