Securing themselves a place in the playoffs, the varsity boys won easily against Buckingham Charter Magnet High School, 58-37, on Feb. 15.

Junior Cole Johnson scored just under half of the team’s points, with nine field goals and eight free throws, totaling 26 points.

Freshman Jackson Crawford was the team’s second highest scorer with nine points.

This was the team’s second victory against the Knights, whom the Cavs beat, 66-42, on Jan. 20.

Coach Gary Brisco said the boys will work on rebounding before playoffs.

Junior Bryce Longoria said the team needs to get into the game faster.

“We started off kind of slow in the first half,” Longoria said. “In the second half our defense was better, so we got easier shots.”

However, even with a slow start the Cavs led the entire game.

According to freshman Aaron Graves  this was due to the fact that team needs to work on communication as well as rebounding.

Celebrating senior night, Johnson and junior Reggie Fan gave speeches for senior Jesus Galindo.

“It was really a very special night,” Galindo said. “I really had fun that game too, and we got a win.”

The Cavs will play their first playoff game on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at home at 7 p.m against Big Valley Christian.
