Even though they had a rough start, the girls’ varsity volleyball team finished with a 3-0 win against Faith Christian on Sept. 27.
The girls won each set decisively: 25-12, 25-9 and 25-15.
Despite the large point gap, junior Yasmin Gupta said the team started slowly and that it was hard for them to anticipate where Faith was going to put the ball. They often sent the ball over after the first or second touch rather than making a typical three-touch play.
“We made a lot of errors, and there was a lot of hitting the balls into the net,” Gupta said.
However, strong Cav serves quickly brought the score back up in their favor.
In the second and third set, coach Jason Kreps used this easier opponent to try out new rotations.
Despite the absence of freshmen Bri Davies, who is injured, and Monet Cook, Kreps thought the team played well, praising the girls’ efficiency.
Sophomore Bella Mathisen agreed and said that the quality of the team made up for it.
“There were some missing holes (on the court), but we all stepped up to fill them,” said Mathisen.
Their next game is on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. against Sacramento Adventist at home.
