Sophomore Fackenthal places first, second in two events, qualifies for swim finals

Sophomore Amalie Fackenthal qualified for the swim finals after finishing first and second in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, respectively, on May 12.

Fackenthal swam a 22.76-second 50 free and a 50.23-second 100 free at her preliminary meet at Tokay High School in Lodi.

Everyone in the NorCal CIF league swims in the preliminary meet, and the top 16 swimmers in their event move on to the finals round.

Fackenthal said she feels good going into finals since she was able to drop her 22.86-second 50-free time.

“I have the most competition in the 100 free,” Fackenthal said. “I think that as long as I go under 50 (seconds) for the 100 freestyle, then I will beat the first seed.”

Freshman Joe Zales has his preliminary meet on Friday, May 13.

Fackenthal’s finals meet is on the morning of Saturday, May 14, at Tokay High School.
